June
- Fertilize Rhodies after bloom. Dead-head ones already faded.
- Prepare soil for lawn seeding or sod
- Think about adding a water feature to your outdoor living space. The sound of water can keep your summer cool
- Root Weevil Larvae may be controlled this month as adults appear
- Fertilize before the temperature rises
- Weeds in lawns can be controlled
July
- Pinch back mums for later blooms
- Conserve water by installing a drip irrigation system, or soakers, and an automatic timer
- Chlorotic lawns may need iron
- Keep your eye out for diseases such as Brown Patch
- Sprinkler coverage problems start to show up as dry spots. Adjust coverage areas or add sprinklers if necessary
August
- Adjust irrigation times for dry conditions
- To minimize water evaporation, water your lawn just before dawn
- Insect damage will show up this month. Make repairs as needed
- Many people will be buying homes this summer. Here are a few tips for inspecting the plumbing to know what you are getting in to. As always, you can contact Stutzman Services for additional tips or help with these.
- Check the date of the water heater - any heater over 10 years old may needreplaced
- Check the yard and surrounding areas for standing water. This can be a result of a broken sewer line
- Inspect the base around toilets for water damage, stains, etc. Also, straddle the toilet and rock back and forth to see if floor is soggy or weak
- Run multiple fixtures at the same time such as bath and kitchen faucet. If you notice reduced pressure, the plumbing in the house may need to be replaced because of buildup. This is most common in homes built prior to 1970
- Ensure the main line cleanout is accessible
- Check under all sinks for leaks. The garbage disposal and dishwasher can be common areas for leaks
- Check washing machine hoses and around the machine for floor damage, etc
